How can the FAST materials be sequenced into a coherent course? In this section of the website, you can explore how one team of teachers designed a semester-length course on faith and science using the FAST approach. All activities, resources, and handouts from the course are provided for your use.
A course on faith and science can help students wrestle fruitfully with questions that will be with them for the rest of their lives. We enlisted teachers to develop a semester-long high school course based on FAST activities. The course was an elective focused on the relationship between faith and science. Evaluation of the course showed that students highly valued the opportunity to engage in this kind of learning.
We know that teachers have different schedules, syllabi, contexts, and needs, so we have presented the material as an undated sequence of themes and activities. You are free to adapt them to your context, splitting sessions where your class periods are shorter or mixing sessions where they are longer. Of course, you will also want to weave in your own material. We hope, however, that this outline will provide a helpful starting point for planning a class that encourages students to reflect deeply on the nature of science and of faith.
