2. Upstream Downstream

Unfolding the Project

You will need multiple class sessions for completing the Upstream Downstream activity. The sequence includes field days and lab days for the purposes of scientific testing and coordination with another school.

Plan your own time sequence based on how often your class meets and local logistics. Our pilot school invested seven course sessions in the lab and fieldwork processes, including a field day with the partner school.

In Upstream Downstream, students will spend time testing water and coordinating with another school community. Work through each stage of the activity. If at all possible, consider including the Optional Extras.

You may remind the class that they are working toward the goal of presenting their findings about water ecology to another group of students.
